Made in China

A man goes on a business trip to China and decides to buy some gifts for his kids. He goes to a shop and spots a CD player. Wary of buying inferior goods he asks the shopkeeper, “What would happen if this machine doesn’t work?”

The shopkeeper quietly points to the only sign in English in the shop. It reads, “GUARANTEE NO SPOILT”.

Feeling assured the visitor pays for the CD player and returns to his hotel, but when he tries to use it the machine won’t even switch on. He immediately returns to the shop to ask for a refund or an exchange. When the shopkeeper refuses to give either the man points to the sign assuring him of a guarantee.

“You’re in China,” the shopkeeper says. “We read from right to left.”
