This week we show you step-by-step how to get gorgeous, kissable lips.

Step1: Liner. “Choose a lipliner that matches your natural lipcolour. This will prevent visible lipliner,” make-up artist Liz Kaplan says.

Step 2: Lipcolour. Apply lipstick with a brush or with the lipstick.

Step 3: Make it last. Separate two sheets of a tissue, hold one over your lips and apply a fine dusting of translucent powder onto the tissue

Sexy shine

Start in the middle of your lips and apply lipgloss outwards. Wipe the edges when you’re finished

Subtle colour

Use a lipstain or a non-shimmer lipstick. Use a finger to dab the colour onto your lips. It shouldn’t look too perfect, just stained.

Top tips

  1. To identify the best basic lipcolour, remove all make-up.
  2. The perfect neutral shade will generally be close in tone to the natural lip colour. You know you’ve found the right shade when it enhances the skin tone, makes eyes look brighter and gives your face a lift,” make-up artist Bobbi Brown advises in her book Make-up Manual.
  3. Darker colours will make small lips look even smaller. Add a bit of gloss to the centre of your lips to make them look fuller. Get rid of dry, flaky bits by gently brushing your lips with an old toothbrush and petroleum jelly.
  4. Avoid shimmery lipsticks when you’re older.
  5. Keep lipstick off your teeth by sticking your index finger into your mouth after applying lipstick and purse your lips. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger as you slowly pull it out.
