Making a meal of it

Students across North America take to twitter to complain about Michelle Obama's new lunches, as part of her Let's Move campaign.

Michelle Obama was pretty proud of her initiative to make school lunches healthy as part of her Let’s Move campaign to reduce childhood obesity. She managed to get a $12 billion student lunch programme passed that feeds about 30 million American schoolkids healthy meals.

But the Healthy Hunger-free Kids Act of 2010 is backfiring badly. “As students flood Twitter with images of inedible slop it’s clear Michelle Obama’s government school lunch revamp is a costly failure,” one newspaper editorial noted. “The act accomplished exactly the opposite of what it claimed it would – leaving hungry, angry, disgusted kids and dumpsters full of wasted food.”
