The ceremony took an hour and 15 minutes and the babies’ famous parents were worried they’d start to niggle. They were also sure the kids would yell when the priest dabbed water on their heads.

“But they didn’t cry at all,” proud papa René Angélil says. “They were great – they were looking at everything, checking out everything.”

The occasion was the christening of Eddy andNelson, four-and-a-half-month-old twin sons of singing superstar Celine Dion and her husband, René.

It was held in Las Vegas, the city that has become the family’s second home since Celine held her first series of sell-out concerts in the entertainment capital between 2003 and 2007.

Soon after the christening the 42-year-old Canadian-born singer kicked off her new show, Celine, which will run at the Caesars Palace Colosseum for three years.

The family, whose main home is a mansion on Jupiter Island, Florida, received a huge welcome when they returned to Vegas and will spend much of the year in the city.

Celine held Eddy during the christening while René (69) carried Nelson. Between them was their firstborn, 10-year-old René-Charles, who was also on his best behaviour during the service, his dad says.

René-Charles didn’t seem bored at all, he adds. “And to think he’s only 10 years old so for an hour and 15 minutes he was great.” René-Charles is one of the babies’ godfathers and “had this huge smile on his face” when the monsignor called his name out during the Catholic service, his father recalls.

René did most of the talking after the christening as Celine was in rehearsals for her new show which has already proved to be a resounding success.

The invitation to the christening went out to 200 family members and close friends, including the doctors who cared for Celine throughout her many attempts to conceive and the high-risk pregnancy. The doctors who treated René during his battle with cancer 12 years ago also attended.
