A Vietcong soldier has been reunited with his arm 45 years after it was amputated during the Vietnam War.

A Vietcong soldier has been given his amputated arm back 45 years later.

Nguyen Quang Hung was given the limb back by Dr Sam Axelrad, who removed the arm during the Vietnam War in 1966 after it had become infected with gangrene and kept it ever since as a reminder.

But it wasn't until recently the medic tried to reunite the arm with Nguyen, and despite not having any of his accommodation details managed to track him down through word of mouth.

Nguyen told BBC News, "I'm very happy to see him again and have that part of my body back after nearly half a century.

"My arm bone is evidence of my contribution to the war. I will keep it in my house . . . in the glass display cabinet."
