Mandela: Long walk to freedom landed three Golden Globe nominations.

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom received three Golden Globe Nominations. Idris Elba was  nominated for Best Actor in a Drama category, Alex Heffes received the nomination for Best Original Score and U2 was nominated for the Best Original Best Original Song for Ordinary Love, which was written for the film.

In an interview with GQ magazine Idris revealed his initial reaction about playing the part of the world icon. “I was blown away. Me? Nelson? No way, no way! You want a real man, not a man from Hackney!

“I had a height advantage for sure. I’m West African… well, my parents are West African (Ghana and Sierra Leone). Very different from Southern Africans.”

It’s been a good year for Idris Elba, who also receives a nomination for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television for his role in the television series Luther, which he won last year.

Producer of Long Walk to Freedom Anant Singh said, “We are honoured to have received three Golden Globe Nominations, the first time ever for a South African film.”
