They bungee jumped off the Orlando Towers in Soweto, went on blind dates and performed a choreographed dance in front of hundreds of people at Maponya Mall in Soweto. And after a vote-a-thon of note Masego Maps Maponyane was named the new Joop! Homme ambassador.

The handsome 23-year-old son of soccer star Marks Maponyane went up against Selimathunzi presenter Lunga Shabalala in a bid to win the title of the first South African brand ambassador of the fragrance. The public were asked to vote and at the party to celebrate the campaign last night at Elevate Rooftop Bar in downtown Jozi, Maps was victorious.

'Lunga is like a brother to me.'

“It didn’t feel like a competition to me. Lunga and I became so close over the past three months this campaign was running and he’s like a brother to me,” Maps said.

Maps is excited at the prospect of working with Joop! Saying he remembers the brand growing up. “My mom loved perfume and would buy this one, among others, for my dad.”

Lunga, on the other hand, was no sore loser.  “It was a stressful three months going up against Maps, and we’ve become good friends now and it was a great experience. You can’t win them all, but I do have a few projects I’m working on, including an acting debut (watch this space), so I’m good.”
