All available police resources have mobilised to try and find a one-month-old baby girl abducted during a hijacking in Durban on Friday.

"Our priority is to find this baby," Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane told News24.

All units, including police sniffer dogs, were being used to searching for the baby. She was with her mother and 8-year-old brother in their white Toyota Yaris when two armed men hijacked them at Game City at 11:45, Zwane said.

They demanded the keys and fled with the car and the baby.

Police found the car in Moody Crescent, Montclair, on Friday afternoon, without the baby.

Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the infant's baby seat and pram had been removed from the car.

They suspected it might have been a "domestic issue" but all possible scenarios were being investigated.

The baby was dressed in only a vest and nappy at the time of the hijacking.

Officers taking part in the search are focusing on Montclair and surrounding areas, Zwane said.
