Melissa Rivers has admitted she is “angry” and needs answers about her mother’s death.

The TV producer is the daughter of legendary comedienne Joan Rivers, who passed away in September last year following complications during a routine medical procedure. Melissa filed the suit against the clinic that treated her in January and during an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, the 47-year-old explained her decision.

“I want to find out what happened," she said. "I need to know, I need answers. I'm angry."

The 81-year-old died of brain damage caused by a loss of oxygen during a routine outpatient procedure and in the papers that she filed, Melissa named five doctors and the clinic as defendants.

As well as discussing her legal battle, the star also shot down reports that she had inherited $100 million (R1 billion) from her Fashion Police mother.

“Which I do not have, by the way!" she proclaimed after Wendy made a joke about the money. "That was a giant exaggeration to the point where I read it so many places, I picked up my phone and called my business manager. I said, 'Do I have $100 million?' He was like, 'No.' I said, 'Maybe you forgot to tell me.' He said, 'No, I didn't forget to tell you, you don't have it.'"

As well as getting answers on her mother’s death, Melissa is also busy trying to find a replacement for her as host of the hit E! style show. Fashion Police returned earlier this year with Kathy Griffin in the main seat but the comedienne quit after only seven episodes. Fellow panellist Kelly Osbourne followed suit after Giuliana Rancic made derogatory comments about her friend Zendaya’s Oscar look.

"We just started discussions," Melissa shared. "I don't know who it's going to be. But right now—I mean, for all we know every name under the sun has been thrown onto the list. We're slowly starting to figure out what would work."
