Miss SA narrowly escapes hijacking

Miss SA Demi-Leigh Nel Peters was involved in an attempted hijacking.

The official Miss SA Twitter account has confirmed reigning Miss SA Demi-Leigh Nel Peters was involved in a hijacking late Wednesday night.

According to the statement, Demi-Leigh was on Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park Johannesburg when she was approached by three armed hijackers.

Fortunately she managed to exit her car when someone came to her aid and drove her away from the scene.

Her car and handbag were later recovered at the scene by a security company. In the aftermath of the announcement, Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula released a statement on the matter on Twitter.

In the statement Minister Mbalula states that he views all crimes against women and children as an added priority and reiterated "we have no time to waste." "No resources will be spared in the fight against crime. Enough is enough was two decades ago, now is the time to take the war against crime directly to these enemies of the people," the statement read. Miss SA account confirmed Demi-Leigh is safe and sound.
