"The child is going to have a rude awakening today."

Tired of her son’s entitled behaviour, Heidi Johnson decided to teach him a lesson. In an open letter, she called on the teen to step up and pay his share of the rent and bills since he wanted to act grown up.

"The child is going to have a rude awakening today after the words he exchanged with me last night,” she wrote on Facebook. “Not only will he find this on the door, but his mattress stripped, and the toys and clothes that I bought confiscated."
'He was still livid when he got home'

Her son Aaron was reportedly not impressed when he saw the letter. He crumpled it before he “stormed out of the apartment”.

“He was still livid when he got home. He decided to stage a ‘sit in’ in my room, where he did laugh at me and repeat, ‘Really? What are you going to do? You can’t take my stuff, etc’. He was asked to leave my room, and when he could be respectful, and I was more calm, we would discuss it further.”

Heidi’s tough love approach was not in vain. About an hour after his tantrum, the teenager apologised and asked what he could do to make things better.

“He had removed some electronics and items I missed that he felt he should have to earn back for his behaviour.”

While some parents supported Heidi’s approach, others were not moved.

"[You're] shaming your child and doing something to him that will last for the rest of his life," wrote one Facebook user called Kevin Weinberg.

"You are a terrible mother and you should have your child forcibly removed from your home."

Heidi has a response for those who’ve condemned her.

"It does make me a little sad at times that moms are so quick to judge the actions of another mother [but] I can't let the negative comments that others make hurt me or take them too personally," she told

"I have to believe that some greater good can come from my mistake of making that post public.”
