An all-ages movie that kids can watch without having to be accompanied by mom or dad is as hard to find these days as a crime-free day in South Africa.

Local children might not be all that familiar with the Dr Seuss books that are hugely popular in America, but this jolly caper ticks all the right boxes – it’s clean, harmless entertainment and enormous fun for kids.

In this beautifully animated retelling of one of Dr Seuss’ children’s stories a boy comes across an aggressive bearded character responsible for all the trees in his area getting chopped down.

He went into hiding when his actions caused an outcry and an ecological disaster. But somewhere there might just be a seed left from which a forest can be regrown.

Without getting preachy this beautiful, romantic animation drives home the importance of nature conservation and the message our environment should be respected and preserved for generations to come.

It’s done in a colourful, informative and clever way, making it a movie that’s definitely worth forking out ticket money.
