Leon van Nierop talks about the latest movie release.

Think of the worst violence you’ve ever seen, throw in the most horrifying moments from thriller movies and add the last time your blood ran cold. Multiply by 10 and you’ll have an idea of the effect this flick might have on you. It’s based on director Sam Raimi’s groundbreaking horror film from the early ’80s in which a group of people in a cabin in the woods stumble across the Book of the Dead. This book, covered in human skin, contains predictions and words that release evil spirits and a descent into hell. Of course the guys and girls in the hut ignore all the rules of horror: don’t open a book that clearly says you mustn’t read it; don’t go into a basement where dead animals hang from the ceiling; and never, ever walk backwards into a room. Most horror movies have a macabre sense of black humour, as did Raimi’s original The Evil Dead (1981), but this violent and brutally gruesome flick doesn’t have time for that – people chopping off their own hands, screaming as they’re being set on fire and repeatedly getting nails hammered into them are the order of the day. It’s truly horrifying. You have been warned.
