G-strings fly in this unexpectedly good movie about male strippers. However he sight of so many toyboys shedding their clothes and the nudity and sex might offend sensitive viewers.

But director Steven Soderbergh’s movie isn’t just about titillation – it reveals the inner lives of a group of guys who at night parade suggestively like peacocks, while trying to get anyone they can into bed – for a fee of course.

But for how long can they suppress issues of morality, self-image, responsibility, consciousness and adulthood?

This fun but heartbreaking comedy is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s (who plays the lead) experiences as a stripper when he was 18. Initially the exploited lives of the strippers is shown in a glamorous light, but soon their lifestyle  catches up with them.

Soderbergh portrays them as three-dimensional people with both good and bad sides. Matthew McConaughey as the seen-too-much strip-club boss makes the biggest impression.

The strip-dancing scenes come to symbolise the men’s inhibitions slowly returning to plague their consciousness. Excellent.
