MOVIE: Peace, love & misunderstanding

13 November 2012

This cool, original and hysterically funny comedy is aimed at anyone who doesn’t find popcorn fodder such as the last Twilight movie satisfying enough.

Rated: 3/5

With Katherine Keener, Chace Crawford, Elizabeth Olsen and Jane Fonda

Director: Bruce Beresford

Opens 16 November

The generation gap is getting wider all the time. But in this case the freethinking rebel is a 70-year-old woman whose conservative daughter can’t keep up with her mom’s wild ways. The old lady (Jane Fonda) takes drugs the way other women swallow aspirin! When her emotionally repressed daughter arrives on her doorstep fresh from a divorce, the jolly gran takes over and shows everyone the hippie era isn’t over yet. Free love and a life lived to the full rock her boat. Then she takes things a bit too far and drives a wedge between her and her daughter.

For a change the older generation has a laugh at the expense of uptight youngsters who’ve become so caught up in their technology-saturated world they’ve forgotten how to enjoy life. It’s an intelligent film that says you’re as old as you feel.
