Movie: The other guys

What’s it about?

After the death of two macho policemen, two nerdy cops – “the other guys” who are usually deskbound – suddenly have a chance to tackle dangerous cases.

Who will enjoy it?

Anyone alive who has ever enjoyed a good laugh fest.

Look, it’s not easy these days for comedy directors to come up with something really side-splitting but Adam McKay brings a breath of fresh air to a tired genre with this tale of a couple of mismatched upholders of the law.

And the original, witty script earns the movie a fourth star.

You never know what’s going to happen next and any screenwriter and director who can give a new twist to the cliche-ridden cop comedy formula deserves success.

Ferrell and Wahlberg make a perfect comic couple.

To see Wahlberg ballet dancing is alone worth the price of a ticket.

Wait for DVD?

No. If you found recent brutally crude, common attempts at comedy such as Bakgat 2 stomach-turning rather than rib-tickling let this brand-new take on funny flicks give you fresh inspiration with its subtle attitude, intelligence and talent.

It’s about friendship and manhood yet sends both concepts up without belittling them or becoming common.

There’s also no exaggeration or slapstick anarchy; just clever witticisms and hilarious situations to make the comic sparks fly.

Go see it and be surprised.
