My house and my home

He doesn’t like having people around to his house – which seems ironic considering his show on 5FM is called My House and he loves to have listeners tuned in.

But DJ Euphonik (real name Themba Nkosi) isn’t arrogant; he’s so busy he relishes solitude.

So we’re privileged to be allowed into his home in Westdene, Joburg, which we discover is an elegant bachelor pad.

He bought the three-bedroom house in 2009 and it needed a lot of renovating, he tells us. ‘‘I’ve always liked the idea of a red wall combined with black and white. I liked putting my own touch to this place, doing everything from the ceilings to the floor, but I may have overspent just a little.’’

Euphonik (27) also owns two flats in Melville and Auckland Park which he rents out and a house in Fourways which he plans to move to soon.

For the popular house DJ and one half of the house music super-brand F.Eu alongside DJ Fresh, spinning discs is a long way from the accountancy career his parents, Lucy and Themba Nkosi, had planned for him.

Euphonik and Fresh share a Wednesday night show on 5FM nights – Power Nite of Dance – and their collaboration, F.Eu, recently released a second album.

Despite having achieved so much at a young age Euphonik says there’s still much left to do. He and Fresh are in talks for a TV show called The Movement, he’s collaborating with DJ Kent on a new Kentphonik album and staging another of his annual DJ courses.

‘‘I’m also involved with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). I’ve been approached countless times to endorse initiatives and I felt this one was most important because with no Earth we have nothing,’’ he says.
