Neil Patrick Harris: Nudity doesn't faze me

Neil Patrick Harris wasn't fazed by stripping off during last night's Oscars.

The 41-year-old actor hosted the 87th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, where some of the big winners included best actor Eddie Redmayne and best supporting actress Patricia Arquette.

During the ceremony he stepped onto the stage wearing just a pair of white Y-fronts as a tribute to Michael Keaton's character in Birdman, which scooped four awards last night including best film. It wasn't a move which Neil worried about though.

'The hard part was the anticipation of getting it right'

"I really didn't think about it. I really didn't. I did Hedwig [and the Angry Inch, Broadway show], so I'm used to being on stage without much on," he told E! News.

"I just think of it as an audience. It's not about numbers. It's always just an audience."

If anything the star was more anxious about his opening number with Anna Kendrick and Jack Black. The trio performed the song Moving Pictures, penned by the pair behind Frozen's Let It Go, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

Neil has already admitted the whole performance was "completely improvised", but that didn't make it any less of a concern beforehand.

"The hard part was the anticipation of getting it right," he added. "There were so many moving parts that the anticipation and the worry was killing me."

His hosting follows on from Ellen DeGeneres' stint last year, which saw her order pizzas for the audience and take part in one of the most popular celebrity selfies to hit the internet.

Unfortunately Neil's efforts didn't receive high praise, with many of his jokes falling flat and being dubbed boring.

Celebrities took swipes too, including Ashley Benson. The blonde beauty retweeted a comment made by TV director Norman Buckley which stated he didn't like Neil's "glib jokes" after sincere statements.
