The state of New York has made it illegal to take a selfie with a tiger.

Law makers in the state in the north western United States have passed a groundbreaking bill that prohibits people from taking photos of themselves with wildcats.

Manhattan assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal introduced the bill that outlaws people posting images of themselves with tigers on online apps such as Instagram and Tinder and anyone caught cuddling up to the deadly animals could be fined up to $500.

She told the New York Post: "They can still pose with bears and monkeys. They just have to take big cats off their list."
