HERE it is – the first family portrait since tiny Prince George made his debut on the hospital steps with his mother and father a day after his birth last month.

The picture was taken by George’s grandfather, Michael Middleton, Kate’s father, in the garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire. Lupo, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s cocker spaniel, is in one of the pictures – looking as proud of the new addition to the family as the beaming Wills and Kate – while Tilly the retriever, the Middleton family dog, flops out on the blanket.

Kate and William are slowly getting used to parenthood and all the pressures it brings. As William put it at the recent Anglesey County Show in Wales, “I thought search and rescue duties over Snowdonia were physically and mentally demanding. But looking after a three-week-old baby is right up there.”

Catherine, he says, is doing very well although George is keeping her up quite a bit at night. William has started calling his wife Catherine instead of Kate in public these days, royal watchers have noted.

William has taken to calling his wife Catherine instead of Kate in public now. “Catherine is more regal,” a courtier says. “The duchess agrees so the duke is happy to use her full name in public.” Signs, those in the know say, that the royal couple are preparing for more formal official duties in the months to come.
