No amorous couples at this movie tonight

This guy has found a way to ruin Valentine’s Day for many couples – he booked every second seat in a cinema showing a very romantic film.

A Chinese man decided he doesn’t want romantic couples to spoil his Valentine’s Day.

The man known only as UP split up with his girlfriend last year so didn’t feel like sitting among clingy lovers in the cinema tonight. To avoid this he’s booked every alternate seat for tonight’s showing of the romantic comedy Beijing Love Story at Shanghai’s Xintiandi shopping complex.

The anti-Valentine’s Day stunt is financed by a successful crowdfunding drive. Singletons were invited to donate money for the tickets online because UP couldn’t afford to buy them on his own.

“I hope couples accept that this is just a little joke,” said UP, who described himself in the Shanghai Morning Post as a computer nerd.

Since he and his single friends have sold out every second seat in the cinema, no couple who want to see the movie tonight will be able to sit together.

“Give us singletons a chance too,” UP’s message said.
