OPRAH fans sure have missed their favourite TV talkshow host so news she’s back on local TV was met with great glee.

South Africans can now watch Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) on the DSTV’s TLC channel 172. OWN programmes will be aired weekly on Thursdays and Sundays’ primetime slots.  Programs will include the much-loved Oprah's Next Chapter, Oprah's Lifeclass, Oprah's Master Class, and Super Soul Sunday.

“The new-look channel will feature content tailored to suit local viewers,” co-owner of OWN, Discovery Communications (DISCA) Senior Vice President James Gibbons said. “Securing the OWN programming block was crucial.”

OWN hasn’t been as successful as Oprah’s talk show was. The 59-year-old American media mogul’s network was unable to attract audience ratings as expected despite her popularity. The slow start raised a few concerns and had her on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

But, she says, they’ve learnt from their mistakes. “We at OWN are dynamic; what you see today, you may not see in the next three, six or even 12 months. We pride ourselves on our programmes and we give our viewers nothing but the best,” she was quoted in the New Age.

Oprah is in the country to also launch the first O You! Leadership Conference and to attend a graduation ceremony at her Leadership Academy for Girls.
