Speaking from their home in Cape Town with unshed tears in their eyes, the parents of the teenage girl found dead in Tokai forest struggled to find the words to express their grief.

"We're devastated by the loss of our child," Franziska Blöchliger's mother Shireen told EWN shakily. "We cannot begin to grasp how someone could do this."

"She was beautiful inside and out. We're totally devastated."

"We don't know how we're going to move on from the loss of this beautiful child."

The 16-year-old girl went missing after going for a run in the southern suburbs forest with her mother and sister yesterday afternoon. She ran on ahead, promising to meet them in a few minutes.

When she didn't return and was nowhere to be found, the community rallied a search party to comb the forest.

Franziska's body was found under the fynbos soon after. It's believed she was strangled.

“My daughter was ripped out of this [world] unexpectedly," her Swiss-born father Florian said.

"There’s no sense. Crime is coming closer and closer and I never expected it to rip right into his heart, so close.”

“It’s been the most terrible day in my entire life. I came here 20 years ago from Switzerland. This country gave me my fortunes, my love and my two children.”

Florian has asked anyone with information to come forward.

No arrests have been made.
