Moms, inspire your teen with these practical and easy-to-apply beauty tips.

Make-up artist Jade Tara Leggat advises.

  1. Don’t try to cover pimples with foundation. Apply a light foundation and cover them with a matching concealer.
  2. After you apply concealer over pimples apply powder to set the concealer and make it last longer.
  3. Use a lightweight liquid foundation on dry skin and a mineral powder foundation on very oily skin.
  4. If you share make-up always squeeze the product onto your hand then apply it to your face. This makes it less likely that you’ll get pimples or cold sores – your hands should always be clean when you apply make-up.
  5. Have your eyebrows shaped at a salon then maintain the shape at home with tweezers.

Paul Hackett, owner of Paul Hackett Hairdressing in Boston, Cape Town, advises.

  1. Don’t skip conditioner if you have oily hair; apply it only to the ends or use a leave-in conditioner on the ends.
  2. The long, layered fringe is very in. Pin back the longest part of your fringe for school and wear a long fringe on weekends.
  3. Don’t use oil-based styling products on parts of your hair that fall on your face because they can cause pimples.
  4. Always tie back your hair when you play sport.
  5. To get a textured, wavy effect make two plaits at night before bedtime. The following morning loosen the braids and lightly brush through your hair with your fingers.
