Treat yourself to an at-home facial with these luxurious homemade scrubs and masks.

  • Moisturising oatmeal and almond scrub

This scrub removes dead cells and the oatmeal and almonds provide plenty of moisture. Oatmeal is also soothing to sensitive skin.

1 t oatmeal

6 almonds

½ t apple cider vinegar

a pinch of salt

Use a mortar and pestle or blender to crush the oatmeal and almonds until fine. Add the apple cider vinegar and pinch of salt. Gently rub the mixture over your skin using damp fingers. Rinse well with lukewarm water and then rinse once with cool water.

  • Deep-cleansing papaya enzyme mask

Before applying any mask, cleanse your face. Follow the mask with toner and moisturiser. Papaya contains vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help remove dead skin cells, soften the skin, treat blemishes and are especially useful to treat open pores and blackheads. Don’t use this mask if you have very sensitive skin.

1 T papaya (use more if you prefer a thicker mask)

Purée and apply to the face. This is quite a messy business so apply using a soft brush and keep working it over your skin. Leave on for seven minutes to give the enzymes time to work. Remove with lukewarm water, followed by a cool rinse.

  • Moisturising and anti-ageing oatmeal, milk and olive oil face mask

Milk products contain lactic acid which is said to help to remove dead skin cells and reduce the signs of ageing. Olive oil helps moisturise the skin.

2 T oatmeal

¼ c milk

1 T olive oil

Cook the oatmeal and milk together until soft. Add the olive oil and mix well. Once the mixture has cooled, apply to the face and neck and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water, followed by a cool rinse. Tone and moisturise.
