Sonia Booth, wife of popular Bafana player Matthew Booth, is preparing to entertain the world’s best-known soccer wives and girlfriends (Wags) during their World Cup visit to SA.

The 31-year-old model says she’s ready to receive Wayne Rooney’s wife, Coleen, Frank Lampard’s girlfriend, Christine Bleakley, England vice-captain Steven Gerrard’s partner, Alex Curran, and others at Sun City in Northwest Province. Queen of Wags Victoria Beckham will be here too, even though injured hubby David won’t be playing.

Sonia is keen to show the women her birthplace, Soweto, and their first stop will be her mom’s house in Pimville. ‘‘I’m going to arrange a minibus and security. Then I’m going to load them all in and take them to my mom’s house. And she’s going to cook for them: pap, boerewors, chakalaka . . . nothing fancy, just traditional South African food. It’s going to be a real party!’’ she says.

Sonia was assigned as a hostess by the British High Commission in SA. ‘‘It’s not official,’’ she says, ‘‘but they were looking for someone who knew Jozi and South Africa well and who was a soccer star’s partner. And I said I was available any time.’’

She has the right profile: she’s married to a soccer star, she’s a media darling, and is in several soccer ads. ‘‘I’m not a Wag, I’m just married to a soccer player,’’ she says. ‘‘I don’t have the bank balance of an English Wag, I’m not as spoilt as them and I don’t spend all my time in beauty salons.’’

Like the Beckhams the Booths are involved in charity. Posh and Becks founded The David and Victoria Beckham Children’s Charity to help disabled children and the Booths recently started the Booth Education and Sports Trust to encourage children to read and relax by playing soccer.

Suitably, Sonia has a customused soccer shirt – on the front is the slogan ‘‘100% behind my hubby’’ and on the back ‘‘Mrs Booth 2010’’.
