Peanut butter bars

These sweet treats pack an energy punch, making them great after-school snacks.

Makes 9 Preparation: 10 min Cooking: 20 min

125 ml (½ c) brown sugar

250 ml (1 c) smooth peanut butter

5 ml (1 t) vanilla essence

250 ml (1 c) wholewheat flour

250 ml (1 c) rolled oats

pinch of salt

2 ml (½ t) baking powder

125 ml (½ c) full-cream milk

80 ml (? c) chocolate chips

125 ml (½ c) raisins

Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Grease a 20x12 cm baking tin.

1 Beat the sugar and peanut butter until pale. Mix in the vanilla essence.

2 Beat in the flour, oats, salt and baking powder. Slowly pour in the milk and fold in with the chocolate chips and raisins.

3 Pour the batter into the prepared tin and bake for 20 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool and cut into rectangles.
