Enjoy this simple toffee with its peanut butter taste. Why not make extra to use as gifts or to sell and earn some pocket money?

Makes 30 Preparation: 15 min Cooking: 20 min

  • 80 ml (? c) smooth peanut butter
  • 80 ml (? c) water
  • 250 ml (1 c) maple syrup
  • 200 ml (¾ c) castor sugar
  • 2,5 ml (½ t) salt
  • 15 g butter, plus more for greasing

1. Thoroughly grease a rimmed baking sheet with butter. In a deep pot over low heat, add all of the ingredients at once. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Without stirring, bring the mixture to a low simmer and don’t rush the process. After about 15 minutes, turn off the heat and pour the toffee onto the greased baking sheet. Let it sit for about 30 minutes until it’s cool enough to handle.

2. Grease your hands thoroughly with butter and pull the toffee. Stretch it into a long rope and fold the rope in half. Twist it completely together, then pull into a long rope again, and repeat. Continue this process until the toffee is firm and hard to pull. Cut it into bite-size pieces. Wrap each piece of toffee in wax paper.
