Pilchards bunny chow

It's time to break convention - try this bunny chow with it's very tasty filling

Serves 6

Preparation time: 10 min

Cooking time: 25 min


15 ml (1 T) oil

2 red chillies, finely chopped

1 onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

1 can (410 g) chopped tomatoes

1 can (410 g) tomato purée

5 ml (1 t) paprika

30 ml (2 T) sugar

30 ml (2 T) white wine vinegar


1 can (410 g) pilchards in tomato

1 can (410 g) beans

salt and pepper

bread to serve

Sauce: Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat and sauté the chillies, onion and garlic for 2 minutes or until the onions are translucent. Add the rest of the sauce ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes.

Bunny chow: Add the pilchards to the pot of sauce, followed by the beans and simmer for 10 minutes over low heat.

Scoop out the inside of the bread and spoon the pilchards and bean into the hollowed-out bread.
