Pregnant Zara Phillips has quit horse riding until after the birth of her first child with English rugby player Michael Tindall.

Zara Phillips will stop horse riding for the remainder of her pregnancy.

A spokeswoman revealed the granddaughter of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has quit the sport to focus on preparing for the birth of her first child with her husband, English rugby player Michael Tindall.

The spokesperson stated, "The fact is that all of Zara's horses have now qualified for the events she wishes to enter them for next year.

"She has done so well already this season, she does not actually need to compete any more. Given that she is pregnant, she has decided to cancel the rest of her entries for the year."

Representatives for the British royal equestrian swiftly laid to rest any speculation surrounding her health, noting she’s simply being "sensible", despite a recent statement outlining her plans to continue with the sport.

The spokeswoman continued, "As we said previously, she is feeling fine and is following all medical advice from her doctors. She is just being sensible about this."

While the baby isn't due until the new year, the British royal family are waiting for the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child, who is reportedly due imminently.
