Prince Andrew posted the first royal selfie on Twitter on Wednesday when he was hosting Pitch @ Palace at St James's Palace.

Britain's Prince Andrew posed for the first royal selfie on Wednesday night.

The Duke of York was hosting Pitch @ Palace at St James's Palace where 12 budding entrepreneurs had the chance to put forward their ideas to an audience of business leaders, venture capitalists, investors and other individuals.

Before the event kicked off the 54-year-old royal posted an image of himself online where he smiled for the camera as he stood in front of a number of smartly suited individuals who can be seen in the background of the shot.

He wrote on Twitter via the official Duke of York account: "Welcome to #pitchatpalace I wish you all a great event, both entrepreneurs and audience. AY (sic)"

Before adding: "HRH at opening of #PitchAtPalace "This is a unique day at the Palace. It's about connectivity and ideas (sic)"

Pitch @ Palace aims to support UK start-ups by giving them access to finance and advice from successful business leaders and investors. This is the second year the event took place but last year's was done on a smaller scale.
