Perhaps his horse was a bit temperamental or the prince just wasn't used to the fresh mountain air -- but Prince Harry wasn't his usual skilled self when he played in a charity polo match in Paarl today.

Soon after scoring a goal, the fifth in line to the British throne toppled off his chestnut horse.

Fortunately he wasn't hurt - the 31-year-old quickly dusted himself off and clambered back on. But he fell off again near the end of the game, and, ever the joker, entertained the crowd with a self-depreciating bow.

Held at Val die Vie Wine Estate just outside the mother city, the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup is the biggest charity polo event of its kind in the world. It was organised to raise funds for the Sentebale Children's Charity in Lesotho, which Harry co-founded.

Harry's Sentebale team lost eventually lost 7-8 to opposition, Royal Salute.

The young prince wasn't the only famous face at the sun-soaked event. We also spotted on red carpet Graeme Smith flying solo, Minnie Dlamini in a cleavage-busting dress, Olympic swimmers Ryk Neethling and Cameron van den Berg and their partners and TV presenter Jeannie D in a gorgeous cream summer dress. Tokyo Sexwale skipped the red carpet didn't want press photos.

Upon arrival, Harry looked cool calm and relaxed as he strolled past. He smiled but didn't converse with media.
