Princess Madeleine's pregnancy an unexpected but delightful joy

Sweden's Princess Madeleine's pregnancy happened "a little fast and very suddenly".

The royal - fifth in line to the Swedish throne - is almost five months pregnant with her first child and says both she and husband Chris O'Neill are excited and "very happy" with how it is going.

Speaking of the suddenness of her pregnancy, she told the Swedish edition of ELLE magazine: "It's better that way, rather than to plan everything in advance and find that nothing happens."

Madeleine is due to give birth in March 2014 and although the couple have not publicly said what the sex of the baby is, there are many rumours it will be a girl.

Madeleine, 31, has previously said she is reading famous baby book 'What To Expect When You Are Expecting' in preparation for the new arrival.

Madeleine married Chris - a 39-year-old British-American, who has not taken a royal title - in June, two years after they first got together.

The couple reside in New York - where Madeleine works for the World Childhood Foundation, a non-profit group founded by her mother, Queen Silvia - but it is expected they will return to Sweden for the birth of their child.
