Rapper Khuli Chana's manager says he is "shaken" but recovering after being shot by police this morning. Police reportedly mistook him for a kidnapper.

Hip Hop artist Khuli Chana (real name Khulane Morule) was shot by police in the early hours of this morning. It’s believed the rapper was shot in a case of mistaken identity.

Khuli was meeting a DJ friend at New Road in Midrand before heading to Moloko in Pretoria for a gig when police mistook him for a kidnapper and opened fire on his BMW, letting off at least six shots without any warning.

According to his manager Refiloe Ramogase, the rapper is still quite shaken by the incident.

“Thankfully it was just minor injuries – he was shot in his hand and injured his finger and there is some shrapnel in his back. He was discharged at around 4am this morning,” Refiloe said.

He adds that given the circumstances Khuli doesn’t want to speak to the media at this point, but will be going to the police station later this afternoon to lay charges of attempted murder against the policemen in question.

“Our publicity team will send out another press release to keep everyone informed, but for now just know that he is fine and recovering at home.”

As with everything in the world of social media, Twitter was ablaze with messages of a speedy recovery to the rapper as well as several hearted jokes. Some of the tasteless include jokes that perhaps murder-accused Oscar Pistorius may have had something to do with it while others were light-hearted.

94.7 Highveld Stereo morning jock Darren “Whackhead” Simpson tweeted a picture of Khuli Chana’s cap asking: “How could it be a case of mistaken identity if Khuli Chana always wears a cap identifying himself!”.

Good friend and fellow rapper AKA (real name Kiernan Forbes) didn’t think any of the jokes were appropriate and promptly tweeted his disgust.

Make your f**** jokes .... See how funny it is for his family ... for his baby daughter ....” and then, “Also please miss us with the twitter cheap shots .... At a time like this? Please have a some dignity.”
