Red wine sauce for malva pudding

250 ml (1 c) red wine such as pinotage

80 ml (1/3 c) sugar

juice and zest of 1 lemon

2 cinnamon sticks

2 star anise

10 ml (2 t) cornflour or arrowroot

Bring the wine, sugar, lemon juice and zest and spices to the boil and simmer for about 2 minutes.

Mix the cornflour or arrowroot with a little water to make a paste and add to the mixture.

Cook for about 1 minute and serve hot with the pudding.
