Reeva Steenkamp’s parents are currently in talks with Oscar Pistorius about compensation for their daughter’s death, weeks ahead of the murder trial.

Reeva Steenkamp’s parents, Barry and June, could be compensated for the death of their model daughter. But negotiations between the Steenkamps and gold medallist blade runner Oscar Pistorius are believed to be at a “sensitive stage”. It’s nearly a year since Oscar shot his girlfriend Reeva on Valentine’s Day.

Reeva helped her parents financially and her parents have been struggling since her death.

The Steenkamps’ advocate, Dup de Bruyn, told Beeld the negotiations were at a sensitive stage and he did not want to comment further for fear of scuppering the talks. Estimates put the figure at between R2 million and R3 million.

Oscar is set to appear in the North Gauteng High Court in March on murder charges.
