This near-death experience turned into a deadly one.

An amusement park is meant to be fun – but that wasn’t the case for an Icelandic 18-year-old who fell to his death from a rollercoaster on Monday.

The boy was on holiday with his family and a friend and were visiting an amusement park, Terra Mitica, which means Mythical Land in Spanish, in Benidorm, Spain.

The police received a call at 4.45 pm after the boy fell out of a carriage on the Green Inferno ride, allegedly because the harness was faulty.

He died in the ambulance shortly after his fall.

The rollercoaster was in the Egypt-theme part of the 14-year-old park and had been operating since 2007.

The name of the boy hasn’t yet been released and police are still investigating the circumstances of his death.
