YOU’s Facebook page was flooded with messages of concern after a rumour was spread that the former South African rugby player Joost van der Westhuizen had died.

The rumours originally started via a BBM message that stated that Joost had died at 17:45 on Tuesday night.

On 12 May 2011, Van der Westhuizen's publicist announced that he had a muscle related neural disease, believed to be a form of motor neurone disease.

Joost’s J9 foundation denied rumours that Joost had passed away. “Confirming that the BBM message about Joost is false. He is at home enjoying a relaxed evening,” they wrote on their Facebook page.

Joost himself later tweeted; “Alive and kicking folks! Ignore the rumours.”

YOU Magazine spoke to Joost this morning and he assured us that he was doing fine.
