Ryan Reynolds: I’d shield baby with Blake

Ryan Reynolds would use his wife Blake Lively as a “human shield” to protect their daughter.

Opening up about how fatherhood has changed him and his priorities during an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, the new dad revealed Blake now comes a close second to their baby.

The 38-year-old actor and his wife of two years welcomed the child just before the New Year, and explained that his fatherly instincts have well and truly kicked in.

'I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby'

“I used to say to [Blake], ‘I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you.’ And the second I looked in that baby’s eyes, I knew in that exact moment that if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby,” he admitted.

Of course, the star was quick to clarify that he’s more in love with the 27-year-old actress than ever since expanding their family.

While the couple largely keep their personal life under wraps, even getting married with no fanfare in September 2012, it seems that fatherhood has turned the first-time dad into a gushing mess.

“I’m not one for vomiting declarations of sentiment out across the airwaves, but when we had that baby, I fell more in love with my wife than I’d ever been in my entire life. I couldn't even believe it,” he revealed with uncharacteristic candour.

While the pair are yet to confirm the name they chose for the little girl, Ryan has shot down reports her name is Violet.

Revealing earlier this week that that was not her given moniker, he elaborated on the reason why they would never have gone with that option.

“That’s a very pretty name, but that’s Ben Affleck’s daughter’s name. We would never [pick] another celebrity baby’s name, so we went with Shiloh,” he joked, referring to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter.

Though he joked to Letterman that his skills extend simply to him being a “diaper changing facility hooked up to a life support system”, he praises his wife for being breakfast, lunch and dinner. He even affectionately referred to her as Denny’s – the famous US chain restaurant.

“She’s a human Denny’s all day long… and it never ends for her. She’s the most beautiful Denny’s you’ve ever seen though, I guarantee it,” he gushed.

New mom Blake, meanwhile, has already returned to work little more than five weeks after giving birth.

The stunning star has enjoyed her first post-baby photo shoot with Mario Testino, sharing a photo on social media of the pair together.

“The one. The only. @mariotestino,” she simply captioned the snap.
