The mobile network has issued a warning about a cellphone scam that might cost users thousands.

The mobile network MTN has issued a warning about a cellphone scam that could cost victims thousands.

Mamello Raborifi, spokesperson for MTN, says that many cellphone users are being contacted from an unknown international number.

As soon as the user answers the call, excessively large amounts of money are then charged to their accounts. If you miss the call and call back the charges are even higher.

Mamello says the con is an expensive sign-in service which makes crooks a great deal of money.

MTN is monitoring the calls and have even had some of the numbers blocked so that users can’t call back. They've also advised users to block numbers like these on their side, avoid answering unknown international numbers and report them to MTN.
