He calls himself Mick Jnr after his world champion father, Michael Schumacher (45), and is showing that he too has the potential to follow in his dad’s footsteps.

He clearly has his father's talent and so far has not been riding on the coattails of his famous name. Mick Schumacher (15) recently came second in the German Junior Kart Championships in Genk, Belgium. He also placed as runner-up at the CIK Karting World Championships in Essay, France. This is rated as the highest level of junior karting. The teen racer placed first at the Deutsche Junior Kart Meisterschaft this year.

Until this year, Mick had been racing under his mother Corrina’s maiden name, Betsch. This was to avoid attention from the press. Father Michael won his first club karting championship at the age of six, after beginning karting at just four.

"Of course I am proud of such an important result," said Schumacher Jnr. "But it is also clear that it is my goal to be world champion. This is only the beginning of my career,” the young racer said.

Seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher suffered terrible head trauma after a skiing accident in December 2013. The F1 legend has been in a coma, and was moved back to his Switzerland home for further rehabilitation.

Updates on his condition have been few and far between. Sabine Kehm, Schumacher’s manager, said there was a “long and difficult” road ahead but former Ferrari boss Jean Todt says Schumi is "fighting" in his recovery.
