Sergio: 24 brain operations later

Pregnant Leigh Ferreira slipped on a wet shop floor. Three hours later Sergio was born with brain damage – now his parents want compensation


“It all happened like slow-motion action in a movie,” the slim, attractive mother re- calls. “I held my stomach to protect my baby and landed on my back. No one helped me up. The shelf-packers laughed at me .’’

But for Leigh (34) it was no joke. The fall caused her placenta to tear loose (placental abruption) and three hours later her baby was delivered via an emergency Caesarean – two months premature. He’d sustained brain damage and would later be diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
