Simon Cowell felt like he was being tortured during one of his more extreme beauty treatments.

The music mogul has always taken pride in his looks and signature style and for many years he would try all kinds of pampering products and sessions to maintain a youthful look. But after one particularly ridiculous session with a therapist, the 56-year-old realised he had to relax his regime.

'I’m a sucker for reading about something out there and believing it will work'

“I’m a sucker for reading about something out there and believing it will work,” he confessed to Britain’s The Mirror newspaper. “Once in LA, years ago, I met this girl who would wrap me up in cling film and then tin foil, after covering me in oils. It was meant to be detoxing. She then put me in this tube in my house, locked me into it for an hour, and told me what she liked or didn’t like on the show. And because she was half-deaf, she was literally screaming at me. After about two months I realised, this is actually torture. That was crazy.”

Simon’s interest in trying new techniques and treatments didn’t stop there. With a host of beautiful ladies around him, including singer Sinitta, he’s been encouraged to try all sorts of things.

“I also had a sheep placenta facial once, which was quite out there,” he continued. “Then Sinitta recommended I try another detoxifying machine, and this thing turned up in my bedroom and it was like something out of Dr Who. It was like a spaceship had landed in my bedroom. This guy turns up and locks me in it, and then spends the next 90 minutes pitching TV shows.”

As well as therapeutic treatments, Simon has also had Botox. But the former X Factor judge joked that his face was so full of filler it didn’t move, the star admits he probably went too far with it at one point.

“Hopefully I look better now – I probably did have a little too much Botox a couple of years ago, because everyone on TV has it,” he added. "Now I have facials, but nothing too extravagant at the moment.”

Simon also revealed he has regular vitamin injections made up of B12, vitamin C and magnesium which is fed through a drip he is hooked up to for half an hour by a nurse who visits his home.
