So Swift, so sweet

Guess it’s true what they say about time being a great healer. A year ago heartbroken Jake Gyllenhaal was licking his wounds after being dumped by Reese Witherspoon a few weeks before Christmas – but look at him now.

Grinning from ear to ear, the movie hunk looked like a love-struck teenager as he walked arm-in-arm with Taylor Swift in New York, at last confirming speculation that he and the country singer are an item.

Since getting together two months ago they’ve gone to great lengths to keep their blossoming romance a secret, meeting on the sly whenever their busy schedules permitted.

Within weeks of meeting her Jake (30) was so smitten he reportedly forked out $160 000 (about R1,1 million) to charter a private jet to fly Taylor (21) to London so they could rendezvous at the swanky Dorchester Hotel while he promoted his new movie, Love & Other Drugs. Since then the romance has been charging ahead full throttle.

Taylor’s parents were put out when on her return from a tour to Japan she announced she would be missing their traditional Thanksgiving celebrations in Nashville to spend time with Jake and his family in New York.

It seems she made quite an impression on the Gyllenhaal clan. Even Jake’s protective older sister,Maggie (33), was won over – especially after Taylor pitched in to help cook and wash up during the holiday festivities.

Insiders say even though Maggie got on like a house on fire with Reese she reckons down-to-earth Taylor is a better match for her brother.

“Reese was always a whole production,” a source close to the family says. “It was all about her. It’s not like that with Taylor.”

That’s for sure – happy to fit in, the Speak Now singer was seen laughing and joking with Maggie’s daughter, Ramona (4), during an after-dinner stroll near the actress’ Brooklyn townhouse.

The next day it was Jake’s turn to come under scrutiny as he jetted to Nashville to meet Taylor’s family. Her parents, Andrea and Scott, seemed to have forgiven him for luring their daughter away during Thanksgiving.

“They loved him and thought he was very polite,” a family insider says.
