Dyaneshwar, who is well known for investigating high-profile killings in the city, had just finished work when he returned home to the grisly scene.

The couple’s son, Siddhant Ganore was missing but has since been detained in Jodphur in the north-western state of Rajasthan and is on his way back to Mumbai in police custody.

A team of three police officers were sent on a 700-mile journey to Jaipur in order to catch him. But by the time they arrived in Jaipur they discovered that he had already left for Jodhpur, which is a further 200 miles west.

"We shared his photo with the Jodhpur police who detained him there. He is now being brought back to Mumbai," said police officer, Rashmi Karandikar.

Siddhant will be questioned when he arrives back in Mumbai, although he has yet to be formerly charged.
