Steak and potato salad

Serves 4

Preparation time: 5 min

Marinating time: 30 min

Cooking time: 35 min


30 ml (2 T) oil

10 ml (2 t) lemon juice

15 ml (1 T) brandy

salt and pepper


400 g beef fillet


700 g baby potatoes

30 ml (2 T) oil

salt and pepper

125 ml (½ c) beef stock

250 ml (1 c) sour cream

handful of chives, chopped

1    Preheat the oven to 200 °C.

2    Mix the marinade ingredients.

3    Steak: Put the fillet in a non-metal dish, pour the marinade over and set aside for 30 minutes.

4    Brown the steak in a pan over high heat until done to your liking.

5    Salad: Boil the potatoes in salted water for 10 minutes or until tender.

6    Rub the oil, salt and pepper over the potatoes and transfer to a roasting pan. Pour the stock in the roasting pan around the potatoes and bake for 20 minutes.

7    Allow the potatoes to cool. Spoon the cream over and sprinkle the chives on top.

8    Slice the steak and serve with the potato salad and a sauce of your choice
