Susan Sarandon believes her granddaughter is absolutely “perfect”.

The 67-year-old actress became a grandmother for the first time over the weekend, as her daughter Eva Amurri Martino gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday August 9.

And Susan couldn’t be happier about the new arrival, as she believes her granddaughter has no flaws. “So happy to share the birth of my granddaughter, Marlowe Mae Martino on 8/9. @4EvaMartino and baby perfect, strong, present, beautiful,” Susan wrote on Twitter Monday.

The thespian recently released her new comedy Tammy, which also stars Melissa McCarthy and Dan Aykroyd.

Susan previously described her character Pearl in the film as a “cranky, pill-popping drunkard” to People magazine. But there are certain elements of the quirky fictional persona’s personality the star would like to impart to Marlowe.

"Actually, if you accept the premise that I was 16 when I had a baby, and my daughter was 16 when she had a baby, Pearl would be maybe two years older than I actually am. One of the things about Pearl is that she’s very curious and really has an appetite for life, so she’s not a granny in the way that you would think of a grandmother," she explained to Collider recently. "I hope she’s the kind of grandmother, without the alcohol and pills, that I would be. She would take you on adventures and encourage you to do things you haven’t done."

The movie follows Tammy and Pearl as they embark on a humourous road trip, encountering trouble along the way.
