Sweet and sticky pork trotters

A recipe straight from Granny's kitchen - with a yummy modern-day twist

Preparation time: 10 min

Cooking time: 2 hrs and 15 min

Serves: 6

30 ml (2 T) butter

4 pork trotters

4 cm piece of ginger, sliced

6 garlic cloves, sliced

2 whole cloves

2 bay leaves

1 cinnamon stick

45 ml (3 T) honey

1 litre (4 c) of apple juice

salt and freshly ground black pepper

30 ml (2 T) honey

15 ml (1 T) soy sauce

Heat the butter over medium heat in a large saucepan.

Brown the trotters, turning them to ensure they’re evenly browned.

Add the ginger, garlic, cloves, bay leaves, cinnamon stick, honey and apple juice.

Simmer for 2 hours or until the trotters are tender. Season with salt and pepper.

Remove the trotters.

Brush them with a mixture of honey and soy sauce, and serve.
