Terms and Conditions The Promoter is InterContinental Hotels Group (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd (Company Registration No. 199907619H) with address at 230 Victoria Street #13-00, Bugis Junction, Singapore 188024. These Terms and Conditions govern “Small things that make a big difference contest” (“The Competition”). By entering the Competition, Participants (“any individual or collective that enters the Competition as described below”) acknowledge and confirm that they have read, understood and given their acceptance of all the terms and conditions of the Competition as listed on this page and any other requirements set out in any related promotional material and all amendments, additions, replacements and modifications as may be made from time to time. In the event of any dispute regarding the Terms and Conditions, conduct, results, and all other matters relating to the Competition, the decision of the Promoter (acting reasonably) shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into. How to Enter

  • Participants must upload a holiday photo via the following url: www.you.co.za with a short description of the one small thing which made a big difference on that holiday.
  • The competition opens on 30 January 2014.
  • Entries must be submitted by 17:00 (UTC) on 20 February 2014.
  • Each participant can only submit one entry.
  • Participants must include their full name, a valid ID, email address, a contact number.
  • Entries will be judged by YOU, a division of Media24 Weeklies.
  • The winner will be announced on 06 March 2014 in YOU, a division of Media24 Weeklies.
  • There will be one winner who will receive South African Rand 20,000.00.
Terms and Conditions Eligibility To qualify to enter the Competition, Participants must be residents of South Africa and at least 18 years of age (or the minimum age required to participate in the Competition in the applicable country). Noncompliance with this condition will disqualify entries from the Competition and from prizes. The Promoter reserves the right to request the Participant produce (within the requested time) appropriate photo identification or other documentation (to the Promoter’s satisfaction, at its sole discretion) in order to confirm the information needed for the Promoter to operate the Competition, including (where applicable) the Participant’s identity, age, residential address, eligibility to enter and claim a prize, and any information submitted by the Participant in entering the Competition, before issuing a prize.  If the documentation required by the Promoter is not received by the Promoter (or its nominated agent) or a Participant or entry has not been verified or validated to the Promoter’s reasonable satisfaction then all the entries of that Participant will be ineligible and deemed invalid. Participants must enter the Competition with their full name, ID, email address and contact number. Employees of the Promoter, the Promoter’s associated companies, the Promoter’s agencies associated with this Competition and their immediate families are not eligible to enter or claim a prize. Immediate family members refer to spouses, children, parents, parents-in-law and siblings. The competition is closed to the staff (and their immediate families) of Media24 and their affiliates. This Competition is void where prohibited by local laws. No payment is necessary to enter.

If any of the Terms and Conditions are held invalid or unenforceable, such invalidity or enforceability will not affect any of the other Terms and Conditions. Use of Personal Data Each Participant consents to the Promoter using particulars he or she has provided for the Promoter to make contact or mail the Participant (whether electronic or otherwise), information or mailers relating to the Competition or any marketing, advertising and/or promotional information relating to the products offered or distributed by the Promoter. Each entry becomes the property of the Promoter. The Promoter reserves the right to have the final decision on the winning entry and as such may also veto any entry it deems fit.

3rd Party Material

By entering the Competition, the Participant certifies that each entry does not infringe any third party’s rights or otherwise violate any law, including publicity or privacy rights, and each Participant certifies that he/she is the sole creator of the entry. Participants shall not upload anything that includes offensive or illegal content, including without limitation, any content that is libelous, slanderous or defamatory of any entity or person, or which contains obscene or pornographic material. Each Participant agrees that if any of the foregoing representations are untrue, in whole or in part, such Participant may be required to indemnify and hold the Promoter, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, harmless from and against any costs, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including, without limitation, attorneys’ fees) arising out of or in connection with any claim or allegation that, if true, would be a breach of the representations above.


By entering the Competition the Participant hereby grants to the Promoter, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive license to use, modify, reproduce, display, distribute, and otherwise exploit (in any manner whatsoever) such entry. The foregoing license grant is not contingent upon anything. The Participant further waives any moral rights that he/she may have had in obtaining commercial gain from the Promoter for their entry. Disqualification The decisions of the Promoter (acting reasonably) in all respects of the Competition are final and binding. No correspondence will be entertained. The following may, at the Promoter's sole discretion, result in the disqualification of entries and may result, if discovered after the award of the prize, in the revocation of the prize:

Participant fails to comply with the entry procedure determined by the Promoter;

Participant breaches any of these Terms and Conditions;

Any entry that does not meet any specified criteria of this Competition;

Any entry that is submitted with invalid, incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information;

Where an attempt is made to subvert the letter and/or spirit of the Terms and Conditions;

Where the Participant is found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Competition or is seen to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person; or

Where the submission contains materials that is, in the Promoter’s sole view, objectionable (including but not limited to material that is obscene, racist, unethical, dangerous, violent or politically motivated), or material that may infringe upon any person’s personal or property rights.

The use of any automated entry software or any mechanical, electronic or other means that allows a Participant to automatically enter the Competition repeatedly.


The Promoter may at any time and without prior notice:

Cancel or modify the Competition except that where it does so to the detriment of Participants it will provide reasonable prior notice on its site and it will honour any prize commitments arising prior to the date of cancellation or modification.

Amend these Terms and Conditions except that where it does so to the detriment of Participants it will provide reasonable prior notice on its site, whereupon all Participants shall be bound by the Terms and Conditions as varied by the Promoter; or

Substitute, withdraw or cancel any prize where permitted under these Terms and Conditions. Publicity By entering the Competition, each Participant acknowledges and agrees that the Promoter may use their entry statement for printing, broadcast, publicity and competition purposes, including but not limited to the Promoter’s website/s and social media pages such as but not limited to Instagram and Facebook without compensation and agrees that the Promoter will own all intellectual property rights, including copyright, in any such material. It is a condition of accepting any prize that the winners acknowledge that the Promoter acquires the results for use for its commercial purposes and agrees not to object to any such use on the basis of any moral right. In addition, participation in this Competition is deemed express consent to disclosure of the Participant's relevant personal data to any person or entity involved in organizing, promoting or conducting the Competition solely to the extent required and for the purpose of such persons / entities assisting in the organization, promotion and conduct of the Competition. Limitation of Liability The Promoter is not liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered, including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss (i.e .losses which are a side effect of the main loss or damage and which are not foreseeable by the parties at the time of agreeing to these Terms and Conditions), or for personal injury suffered or sustained during the course of accepting or using the prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (such as, where applicable, liability for death or personal injury caused by the Promoter's negligence or for fraud). The Promoter's maximum aggregate liability to each Participant will not exceed the obligation to provide the applicable prize(s) to which that Participant is entitled, although this will not apply to any liability which cannot be excluded or limited by law. The Promoter will not be responsible nor will it be liable for, any damage to, or virus that may infect, the Participant’s computer equipment or other property on account of the Participants’ access to the Competition.  Entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into the Promoter’s database. The Promoter is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by web-site users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the competition or by any technical or human error, which may occur in the processing of competition entries. The Promoter is not responsible if and to the extent that this Competition is not capable of running as planned because of infection by computer virus, mobile phone failure, line drop out, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other cause beyond the control of the Promoter.

Obligation to compensate

Each Participant (including his or her heirs, executors and/or administrators) hereby agrees to defend and fully compensate and hold the Promoter harmless from and against any and all claims, losses, costs (including all legal costs), expenses or damage arising out of or in connection with the Competition, any prize or any breach of any of these Terms and Conditions and hereby releases and discharges the Promoter from any and all such claims, losses, costs, expenses and damage. General These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Singapore, and Participants irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts (unless the laws of a Participant's jurisdiction require that the Participant be entitled to bring a claim in their local courts, in which case they may do so to the extent so required by the applicable laws). A person who is not party to any agreement governed by these Terms and Conditions shall have no right to enforce any of these Terms and Conditions The Promoter may wish to transfer its rights or obligations or sub-contract its obligations under these Terms and Conditions to another legal entity. These Terms and Conditions are personal to the applicable Participant. The Participant may not transfer its rights or obligations under these Terms and Conditions to anyone else. In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any brochures, marketing communications or promotional materials relating to the competition, these Terms and Conditions shall prevail.
