A 16-year-old boy from Lesotho, believed to be on a school outing, has died after he was decapitated in full view of his fellow pupils on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said.

McKenzie said the bus carrying school children, believed to be on an outing, was travelling down a narrow road, Dick King, off Anton Lembede Street [Smith Street] in the Durban CBD when the accident happened.

“It is believed that the boy’s head was [sticking] out of the window and the driver drove past a street pole on the side of the road," he explained.

One of the other pupils on the bus had to be taken to hospital for trauma treatment,” said McKenzie.
